Queen's Road East (皇后大道東) is a song written by Taiwanese singer Lo Ta-yu, featuring Hong Long singer Ram Chiang. Written in 1991, the song is talks about the impending handover of Hong Kong from British rule to Communist China due for 1997. Through the use of satire, it expresses the anxiety felt by Hong Kongers, switching from a capitalist system to a communist one.
The song was banned in Mainland China upon it's release due to it's politically sensitive lyrics. In 2022, the song had a minor resurgence in Hong Kong in remembrance of Queen Elizabeth II after she passed. This was largely because she was referenced multiple times in the song's lyrics, being used to represent British rule.
