12/12/2024: High Stakes was a collaborative song, written for a contest during the Online Sequencer OS Games, a special event taking place roughly in December of 2021. My team and I were to create a boss battle theme to highlight our fight with another team.
I drew inspiration primarily from our previous tracks in the Games, reusing a ton of leitmotifs, and borrowing melodies from our opponent team to add contrast and make it resemble an actual battle. I blended these themes into what I consider to be one of my best original songs I've created.
Since that time, I've worked on a few different versions of the original High Stakes theme, with this iteration being the latest. I replaced the old ending theme with a revised, remixed one that I had made in June of 2022.
The song is meant to sound tense and rushed. In the middle of the song there is a short, heroic interlude utilizing the "Main Theme" of our team, the Hibiscus, meant to symbolize a triumphant turning of the tides in the hero's/player's favour, before the electronic breakdown brings the song back into the opponent's hands (and perhaps begins a new phase of the battle?). I got this idea from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, where during boss battles, when it's your turn to strike, a similar heroic theme will interject, but it is instead Link's theme from the Hyrule Field track.
The ending is meant to be a classic "You Did It!" style victory theme, as seen in every RPG ever. This specific one is based off of the victory theme from Final Fantasy VII, despite me not having played the game.
