I'm looking for a good sound combo that reasonably emulates timpani. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I think Calico did something that sounded like timpani in ine of his songs

use detune on toms or the surdo on the drums or use pizzacato

Update: I think I've settled on a tom/pizz/tri combo
