[Image: attachment.php?aid=766] Hello Online Sequencer! It's time to announce the 2024 October Monthly Contest!

Time to get creative, as this month's theme is a dual theme! This month's theme is percussion-only! There will be two separate categories, one for melodic percussion-only sequences, and one for non-melodic percussion-only sequences.

Please look at the category rules below to see what entries are allowed for each category.

Category Rules
For the non-melodic percussion-only category, only the various drum kit instruments are allowed to be used. DO NOT USE OTHER INSTRUMENTS, EVEN IF THEY ARE MUTED! For the melodic percussion-only category, only the instruments under the "Percussion (MIDI)" and "Percussion (Classic)" are allowed. For reference, here is a complete list of instruments that are allowed (instruments in blue are only allowed in the melodic percussion-only category.
  • Drum Kit
  • Electric Drum Kit
  • Xylophone
  • Vibraphone
  • Steel Drums
  • 8-Bit Drum Kit
  • 2013 Drum Kit
  • 808 Drum Kit
  • 909 Drum Kit
  • 2023 Drum Kit
  • EDM Kit (E)
Please note that using all or parts of the drum kits in a melodic manner is NOT ALLOWED in the non-melodic percussion-only category; instead, they should be used for the rhythmic and other non-melodic qualities. Feel free to use the drum kits in a melodic manner for the melodic percussion-only category, however.

Markers are allowed and can be used as you see fit, so long as you keep the category's restrictions in mind.

While it is also stated in the general information this month, be aware that only 1 entry is allowed per user per category. Make sure that everyone's on board if you're going to submit a collaboration, as that would be the only allowed entry for that category for everyone in the collaboration!

Lastly, when submitting an entry, please state what category you are submitting it to. If you do not, we will default to assuming it is a submission for the melodic percussion-only category unless it is very clearly meant for the non-melodic category. Be aware that stating that an entry is for the non-melodic category does not guarantee it's placement there, as it will be moved to the melodic category if it uses any parts of the drum kits in a melodic manner.

General Information
The entry period is from 10/1 ~ 10/21 (11:59 PM EST). Winners will be announced on 10/31/2024!

While we will post general notes on every contest, please refer to the Monthly Contest announcement thread for more details on Monthly Contests themselves.
  • Entry limit of 1 sequence per user per theme. That means that each user can still only enter 2 sequences total this month.
  • Committee members are allowed to enter the contests, but will not enter their example sequence nor will they vote for their own entry.
  • Sequences made prior to the current Monthly Contest are allowed, although entering the same sequence in different Monthly Contests is not. If you are unsure about whether or not you have entered a sequence in a previous monthly contest, a list of all the sequences that have been entered into previous monthly contests can be found here.
  • Making a remix of an existing song is allowed.
  • Editing an entry after the entry period is strictly prohibited and will result in that entry being disqualified.
  • You cannot "collaborate" with alt accounts. Abusing alts to circumvent the 2 entries per person rule is not allowed.
  • Entries that are collaborations should not be posted on a shared alt account. They should be posted to the account of one of the collaborators. You cannot enter a sequence on another account's behalf.
  • The standard Online Sequencer Rules will apply and any entries violating a rule will automatically be disqualified.
I look forward to seeing what you guys come up with. Good luck to you all!

damn this is gonna be fun
this is a challenge
so EDM kit is allowed, but can't be used melodically?
looks like another contest I wont be participating in
i have this, not sure what category it would fit in, or if it counts at all, but if it does, sweet.
Ok, a question if in the non-melodic percussion song it occurs to me to put, for example, the edm kit with detune in some parts, would it be considered melodic and therefore could not participate?
the clock stopped ticking forever ago...

ehh good enough
time for edm kit to carry
