I will try to help explain a little. Each monthly contest has a different theme (like a certain genre or style) that contestants compose to. This time was shoegaze, which is like dreamy indie/pop rock. You can find the contest theme at the top of the monthly contest post. I think people were just trying to explain that you posted an 8-bit sequence when they were expecting a shoegaze sequence. It is not against the terms of service to have guidelines in a competition, it is not toxic to attempt to explain them. Guidelines are not an opinion. Yes, a lot of people in this community come off as super toxic, but we really aren't all that bad when you get to know us.
