How to write rhythm guitar?

Anytime I add an acoustic rhythm or strum chords under this chorus it just sounds tacky, but without the rhythm guitar, it doesn't sound 'full'

Personally, I won't use the Rhythm as a Lead part, I can't find an acoustic guitar part unless it is the Clean Guitar. I would try the Lead Guitar effect if I were you.
