I can imagine a lot of situations where precise control would be useful. Some people won't need it, but some people will; it depends what people are trying to do with OS, but if everyone can have what they want, that seems like the ideal scenario to me. Making finer control possible doesn't take anything away from the people who wouldn't use it.

If a feature overcomplicates the UI, that actually does take something away from the other users. We need to be careful when adding new features.

The Detune feature in OS is awesome, but it is the first pitch shifter I've seen in any software that doesn't tell you how much pitchshifting you're doing. I can't know if some people might find it complicated if, to the right of the X on a Detune row in a Edit Marker popup, a number told you you were shifting up +2.0 semitones, or if a tooltip showed up when you dragged the Detune control up or down to tell you that, but I'd think a lot of people would find Detune much easier to use if that info was easily visible.

I'd say the same about other controls, but for other controls it's certainly more debatable.

I would agree with that, but this particular suggestion may very well be THE simplest and least obtrusive feature add in the history of OS, no?

I mean there are already lots of things that will tooltip if you hover, such as hover over the scissors icon and it will tell you 'cut'. Just make it so that any slider that you hover over tells you the setting that it's at.

I remixed the remix.  Now it's back to normal. ~Mitch Hedberg

I was talking in general. The hover text idea is definitely unobtrusive and I like the idea. I've added it to the todo list.

The right click to enter a precise number idea may or may not be intrusive, depending on how it's implemented. Would it be an additional popup when you right click?

We do need a way of copying instrument settings, but I'm not sure what the UI for that would look like.

what happened to the forum reactions? I want to 'agree' with this post. I like this idea. So many people giving them a hard time about it, sheesh.
