After some recent events, I've had a change of heart about my attitude when it comes to OS chat. I'm sure we all love OS, but the state of OS chat is something that many find to be disheartening. There are some fundamental changes in behavior that we as a whole should work on. I'm starting with myself. I would like to hold myself accountable for my actions, argue less, and create productive conversation with other members.
There are some planned (and unplanned) changes to be made regarding OS, which will soon be announced and implemented. I'm also talking with a few members to potentially launch a project that will incentivize good behavior. But ultimately, the fate of OS chat lies in your hands.
Together, we can reform OS chat to be something better. OS chat should be a place of productive conversation, growing relationships with other members, and open teamwork.
For those of you who are cynical, I understand this may not be very inspiring to you. All I want is a better environment for everyone, and if that means just being the slightest bit more empathetic towards others, then please do so.
For those of you who are with me, here is what you can do as of right now:
- Think before you speak! We have a five second cool down for a reason. Take that extra bit of time to decide whether what you say is productive and meaningful.
- Be empathetic! Understand that there is a person behind the screen, and they may not be as different from you as you think.
- Minimize conflict! Most conflict simply isn't worth the arguments or the enemies you make. If you are going to argue, be respectful of the other person's opinion.
- Spread positivity! You don't have to like every person you meet online, but your conversations will be much more meaningful if you avoid incessant negativity.
Thank you for listening, I love you all <3
