Blocking or Ignoring the people you think make you feel the need to say something back is the best way to not cause more drama than is needed. This thread is kind of pointless and won't achieve anything because Lucent won't listen to advice/reason.
It's easy for you as a passing member to ignore people that cause problems on the chat. It's completely your decision to take a leave when you want in order to escape the situation. Since you only have as much power as other bystanders in the site, no one is going to get mad at you for avoiding some mess you don't want to deal with. Bystanders have the option to either remain in the conversation and ignore things that are going on or to just leave the conversation in the end.
However when it comes to the moderators, this is easier said than done. The problem is that it is my responsibility to preside over the chat and diffuse these problems, like IRLBlackBeard said. Whether we like it or not, people try to approach us in order to do something about it. If we don't do anything about it, then people get angry. There are situations that we don't know what to do on something, and while it is where our faults lie, please remember the moderators are trying to be human, too.
In other words, we cannot ignore problems that occur on this site. We get up everyday, we stay past our bedtimes everyday in order to make this site a better place. If a portion of the community isn't willing to cooperate with us on this, then the problem becomes even harder to ignore. We have to say something back.
I'd rather reach out to people then suffer the consequence of the community worsening, rather than letting the situation go empty handed and continue to grow worse on its own. Sure, the conflict can die on its own too, but my mind will stay restless until I feel that I've done enough contribution to mediate the problem at hand. This proves the extent that I am willing to go for this site.
I know there should have been a more polite way to convey my message, but I've noticed my past attempts to unite this site's community have fallen on deaf ears. The people who agree that this calamity should end regardless of the situation acknowledge the message, but I am fully aware that people with a contradicting opinion exist. Some of these people do provide enlightenment, while others have the urge to act destructively with their opinion. My PSA directly targets the latter.
Regardless of whether I will listen to reason or not is quite irrelevant at the moment. I've done my job of delivering a message and that's all I planned to do. I expected some feedback to come, and yes, I do read them. In either case, some people expected a response from me to this thread too, so I shall answer back accordingly.
