I'm not a composer, but I'm a bit interested in music and I found this site about one year ago.I spent my time listening to music made by talented composers and, sometimes upload some dumb melodies by myself.
However,I'm confused to find that this site seems not to have many ways to react to the pieces we've just heard. The popularity is based on total plays. It's true that we may be attracted if the composition is about some exciting topics, but I don't think total plays is the only and very way to show peoples' appreciation: we have to play a sequence first, and then react to it. With new sequences flooding in,the sequence will soon disappear in the "newest" list, and not pop up at "popular" list.
Some composers try to first make a nice Demo of a great piece, and update it for several times, expecting more listeners, including those who was attracted before, to play them,The piece becomes a success, accumulating many plays and good reputation. That is a good way, but can we go a step further? Something as simple as a "like" button(or "dislike" as well) may change everything.
When building up an online community, it's essential to have various ways of interaction between members. It will help new comers to fit in, and encourage talented composer more.I don't know if there's any technical hardship, I guess there isn't.
