Custom Instrument Archive

This is a list of many custom instruments and sounds created by the OS community.

NOTICE: any instruments that do not sound good will be deleted, so don’t bother unless you are sure your instrument is good. Also, when you add an instrument, please do it in the same format as all the other ones.

Instruments

Oboe/Bassoon

Creator: Solea

How to create:

• Select synthesizer or create a clone.
• Set the waveform to sawtooth
• Set the filter to lowpass and set the frequency to somewhere around 1200
• Change the LFO to pitch, and set the intensity to 5
• click on the ASDR envelope and set the attack, decay, and release to 0. Then, set the sustain to around 0.5.

• In advanced options, set Classic Reverb to about the middle of the slider
• Click EQ and set the High and Mid EQs to around 20.
• Turn the volume down to your liking.

To make the oboe more realistic, use markers to increase the pitch LFO intensity on long sustains.

Oboe 2

How to create:

• Select flute or create a clone.
• Set the reverb to Classic (100%)
• Set the distortion to hornet (100%)
• Lower the mid and high Eqs to -10
• Lower the low Eq to -48

you will need to psuedo sustain for notes longer than a quarter note but it works well for shorter notes

Bagpipes

How to create:

• Select synthesizer or create a clone.
• Set the waveform to sawtooth
• Set the filter to lowpass and set the frequency to somewhere around 1200
• Set the resonance all the way up to 10
• Change the LFO to pitch, and set the intensity to 5
• click on the ASDR envelope and set the attack to 0.60, the decay to 0.90, the sustain to 0.60, and the release to 0

Synthesizer settings for bagpipes

• In advanced options, set Large Reverb to around 0.30

• Click distortion and set it to Hornet with an intensity of 0.55
• Click EQ and set the High EQ to around 9
• Set the detune to -1200 (optional)

Now, make a clone of the bagpipe, and set the detune to about 10-20 cents above the first synth. Layer both on top of each other to get the bagpipe sound.

Ragtime Piano Sustain

How to create:

• Create your desired melody with grand piano
• Create a clone and detune it about 20 cents higher than the latter.
• Layer it on top of the other piano.

This is very simple, but it is included because it is very practical.

Clarinet

How to create:

• Select synthesizer or create a clone.
• Set the waveform to square
• Set the filter to lowpass and set the frequency to somewhere around 2200
• Set the resonance all the way up to 3
• Change the LFO to pitch, and set the intensity anywhere from 2 - 8
• click on the ASDR envelope and set the attack, to 0.10, the decay to 0.30, the sustain to 0.70, and the release to 0

• In advanced options, set Short Reverb to around 0.65
• Click distortion and set it to Hornet with an intensity of 0.25
• Click EQ and set the High EQ to around -35
• Click EQ and set the Mid EQ to around 15

Trumpet

How to create:

• Select brass or create a clone.
• In advanced options, select Gated Reverb to around 1.00
• Click distortion and set it to Tremor at 0.5
• Click EQ and set the High EQ to -45, the Mid EQ to 10, and the Low EQ to 3

How to create:

• Select vibraphone or create a clone.
• In advanced options, set Large Reverb all the way up to 1.0
• Move the detune slider all the way up to 1200
• Click EQ and set the High EQ to around -8

Theremin

How to create:

• Select synthesizer or create a clone.
• Set the waveform to sine.
• Change the LFO to pitch and set the intensity to about 25.00.
• click on the ASDR envelope and set the attack, to 0.18, the decay to 0, the sustain to 1, and the release to 1.
• In advanced options, set Large Reverb to around 0.60
• Click EQ and set the High EQ to around 16
• Click EQ and set the Mid EQ to around 4

Chalumeau

• Select flute or create a clone.
• Set the volume to 1.15.
• In advanced options, set Church Reverb to 0.40.
• Click distortion and set it to Shear with an intensity of 0.25.
• Click EQ and set the High EQ to 20.
• Click EQ and set the Mid EQ to 10.
• Click EQ and set the Low EQ to -48.

Note: You will need to pseudo-sustain for notes longer than 1½ measures, but it works well for shorter, staccato passages.
