try creating the chord progression first, then you add the melody later, thats usually what i do.

You need to add these parts to your sequences: Melody, Rhythm, and the Beat. Keep them playing mostly throughout the sequence. Try to add other parts(not too much, maybe 1 or 2 more)to your sequences.
