I feel like my music lacks some quality that others have that I don't, it feels like it doesn't have a strong foundation and I don't really know what to do to change it
From my own experience, sucking for a while is kind of mandatory. I started improving only when I stopped comparing myself to people who’ve been producing for 10 years and focused on copying simple structures from songs I like. That alone leveled me up a lot.

starting with the chord progression helps for me better
Mess around with existing sequences to get an idea of how they work- I recommend picking over Spira and Eden's work, especially their earlier stuff. Once you get a feel for how they put things together, you can iterate on that and eventually come up with good stuff on your own.
If you're struggling, don't be afraid to stop and wander around for a bit. Listening to music of a similar genre to a current project can give inspiration, or at least insight.
Don't be daunted by users like N4T or Tibbinator, It's taken eight months of using OnlineSequencer daily for me to wrap my head around them, but even they can be broken down into simple components that can be understood, reproduced, and used in new and interesting ways.
