Hello peeps, I know reading something like this feels kinda cringe but, yes I am new to posting threads and being a part of forums. I feel like such an old lady but, despite that, I was hoping I could get the chance to get some feedback on my sequence and/or collab with someone using this sequence too.
Not forcing anyone to do so, but I've been using this site for well over three years and I feel like it's about time I truly appreciated its members by integrating myself within this well made community filled with such talented composers and track producers. I'd like to know more on how I can do that but, the most I can do as of now considering what I know is to 'buy Jacob a coffee' haha. thanks and I anticipate reading your responses. This was a message more or less directed towards os mods but this applies to anyone else too. =)

honestly cello is a good instrument but i feel like a piano instrument would work well too.

There are no bad instruments. It all depends on what mood you're trying to set here. You could go string quartet kind of thing (if OS had 4 string sounds), but maybe strings, horns and flute would go well together. It's rather busy the way it is so doesn't leave much room for counterpoint. Was it a classical thing that you were going for here? The alternative would be to put a dance beat under it and throw a synth part on top. If you wanted to make a pop song out of it you'd need another part or two to go with it, but it doesn't really say pop to me, it sounds classical - and not just because it's cello, just the intricacy of it sounds baroque.

Its hard to tell what genre it is i'll admit, but i was definitely trying to go for more of a classical mood with a catchy tune to it, but catchy tunes usually have a chorus so, idk, its still a work in progress but i'll aim to organize it a bit more and stick to a more classical or baroque mood since its already got that vibe. Thanks for the feedback! By the way, i based the song off of some of the inspiration i got from this song> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MZRyQmBg1d0 . idk what genre you'd call this but i heavily enjoy it.

You could break all this cello into different parts, like take some the high register and change it to violin, and/or some of the low register into some bassy synth or something. You wouldn't have to throw anything away, just convert some of the cello into different instruments. Then you could still put a dance or a triphop beat under it and have a classical themed dance song. And even further still you could come up with another part for a chorus, probably something less busy - grab attention of the ear that way against the intricate first part, before dropping back into the baroque verse part.

I like what you've done, it's energetic and has a lot of interesting detail. It's hard, using a midi sequencer like OS, to make something that sounds natural, but the cello sound you've chosen is probably the best choice, from the OS options, for what you're doing. I find the OS violin less convincing than the cello, and changing some of the parts to violin might not improve things. Adding a beat would completely change the overall feel of the piece, so it depends what you're aiming for (as I hear it, it feels like music that should be scored for a string quartet or piano trio, not music that should have drums). There's not much contrast in the piece right now, which I think is fine since it's short. If you might make it longer, then I'd give some thought to how you might introduce some variety in the sound (adding a piano part might be a good choice), but also how you might add some variety to the composition -- after all those fast rhythmic parts, something slower and more sedate could be very effective, and then after a more relaxed part, returning to a fuller-sounding variation on the energetic section could work really well.

That's how I heard it too, a string quartet or something similar, but then when I clicked the link that she provided, the inspiring piece had a triphop beat under it.
