To get a good sequence, you should probably make it work for various formats
It should also sound good/serviceable on raw midi (what you get when you check your Download MIDI and play it in another player or editor (with gm.dls sound))
To make it work outside os (like on youtube) instruments should sound distinct (don't use the obvious common instruments unchanged, people can tell that it's an os sequence if they know what they sound like) so you should at least modify the sound of the vanilla instruments to be different enough to not be spotted as a sequence recording, we do not have a nes/gb style customizable waveform yet but we do have the synthesizer
Clean: works on weaker computers, try having a low load assigned to the sequence, do not load instruments that aren't being used as they will load in the list regardless
Creativity for art: try working within the limitations of the default instrument colors for making pixel art, with each new instrument, it also doubles as a new color, so back then you'd only have a small selection with one blue red green orange black etc nowadays there's enough to express most colors that you're going for
