what about some kind of tool that shows notes on different layers? like, the top-most layer is layer one. when a note is placed on top of another note, the bottom note becomes part of layer 2, and so on.

this is a good idea, but there are times you might want layered instruments, like a koto and an elec. guitar

I wouldn't mind if I could choose which ones display on top. A rather minor aesthetic issue, although it would help me seeing the notes the way that I expect to see them and so easier to tell that things are in the right place.

I remixed the remix.  Now it's back to normal. ~Mitch Hedberg

Please, please, PLEASE implement this idea. I try to be careful not to unintentionally stack notes on top of each other, but no matter how cautious I think I'm being, I always seem to end up with a few. Yes, it's easy to click on it and delete all but one of the stacked notes, but the hard part is *finding* them all, especially if your sequence becomes dense with a lot of different voices. It can end up being very time-consuming, and that's time that could be put to better use. I think the double note deleter idea would be a godsend.

Yes, there are times when you might stack notes intentionally, but if you know that you've done that, you can, you know, choose *not* to use the delete function. Also, it's a lot easier to add stacked notes back where you know you want them than it is to track down all of the unwanted ones you might have.
