How to place notes off the grid, and make tiny notes?

I've seen people place notes off of the grid, and make tiny notes, but the software by default is very restrictive and touchy about that. How do people do it?

You should exchange the color. I think it is the best way

What I usually do is use a separate MIDI editor to get those off-grid and tiny notes just the way I want. Then, I import them into my DAW.
