Every screen these days tends to be widescreen and the vast majority are 16:9. However, before LCD displays became so popular, most screens were a 4:3 aspect ratio. There also exists a less common 16:10 ratio which is more common on laptops.
I find the way the aspect ratio frames a scene can impact its emotional value, and in the Witcher 3 or Cyberpunk2077 this helps me focus on the characters more than in the widescreen 16:9 ratio.
Try setting your aspect ratio to alternative sizes and see how they impact your computering experience, and adjust the distance of your monitor to deal with the smaller sizes (assuming you have a 16:9 monitor)
For gaming I like 16:10, 4:3 doesmt have much peripheral view, but 16:9 feels like being in a house with the ceiling too low
