March Bohdan Khmelnytsky / Марш Богдан Хмельницький
The Bohdan Khmelnytsky March is a Soviet-Ukrainian military march written in 1917 by Ludomyr Antonovych Petkevych, a Ukrainian composer. It was performed frequently in the Soviet Union. After the dissolution of the USSR, The newly formed Ukrainian Republic inherited the march, where it is still played during parades and other celebrations.
The march is named after Bohdan Khmelnytsky, a Ukrainian Cossack who led an uprising against the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, creating an independent Cossack state that was protected by the Russian Empire. He is considered a National Hero in both Ukraine and Russia.
