relentless chase
i was eating some tangerines
then i thought about bartok's miraculous mandarin
March 2025 Monthly Contest Entry
justification of locrian is mostly based on the cellos outlining the tritone at the tonic
starts at B locrian (cellos don't go down to that low B so i needed to detune)
m8 and m17-m20 fluttering descending major thirds are disregarded from locrian
m13 turns into F# locrian
m17 turns into G# locrian
m21 remains at G# locrian (cello is tuned back to normal), piano is used for percussive effect (also to be disregarded from locrian) and mirrors the fluttering descending thirds that were being played by the flutes earlier
m32 entry of scattered second intervals remain within the notes of G# locrian
m36 entry of chromatic flutes are disregarded from locrian
unfortunately my shortest contest entry so far rip
