Written in 2008, "Fortnight" was the first song I ever wrote for FAWM (February Album Writing Month), an online songwriting challenge in which participants try to write 14 songs in 28 days.
I thought it would be a cool idea to be able to incorporate the words "1 down, 13 to go" in the lyrics, so I wrote a song about someone who is at the end of Day One of being without their romantic partner, who has gone away for 2 weeks (hence the title).
It's only one minute long. I wanted it to be short and sweet... kind of a hit 'n run song (or, as I like to call it, a song that 'comes in, gets the job done, and then gets the hell out'). Also, I wanted it to rock, but I had to try to make that happen without guitars. I think I accomplished that in the original 2008 version... here, I'm not quite so sure.
I still haven't added vocals to this version, but here's a link to the (probably superior) 2008 recording.
Online Sequencer version of a song I recorded back in 2008-- so no, it has nothing to do with the similarly titled video game, pre-dating it by 9 years. Original version, with vocals: https://soundcloud.com/i_am_kiffa/kiffa-...-fawm-2008
